The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion Bio
The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion is an indie punk-blues trio led by Pussy Galore’s former frontman and guitarist Jon Spencer, born in 1965 in New Hampshire. The band was formed in 1991 when Spencer came together with Judah Bauer (guitar) and Russell Simins (drums) in New York City. After two releases, the band acquired notoriety with their third full-length “Extra Width” in 1993, especially after its single “Afro” aired as a music video on MTV. In the following LP “Orange” (1994) they had a guest appearance by Beck. The band went on to produce three more albums with rising commercial success before taking a hiatus after 1996. The new millennium saw two more full-length albums and a compilation issue. Hip-hop producer Alap Momin mixed the live album “Freedom Tower: No Wave Dance Party 2015”.
