Clutch Bio

Clutch is an American hard rock and blues rock band from Fredrick, Maryland. The band formed in 1991 comprised of members Neil Fallon on vocals, rhythm guitar and keyboard, Tim Sult as the lead guitarist, Dan Maines as the bassist and Jean-Paul Gaster as the drummer. The band gained a local Maryland following upon their early days as they constantly performed around the state. The band was then signed to EastWest Records and released their debut album, ‘Transitional Speedway League’ in 1993. Clutch did not release any music until the 1995 with their self titled album, ‘Clutch’ which garnered the band more mainstream exposure. Clutch’s rock music began to gain more recognition which led to their signing with Columbia in 1998, releasing two albums ‘The Elephant Riders’ and ‘Jam Room’ in 1999. As their discography began to grow, Clutch released ‘Pure Rock Fury’ in 2001 followed by ‘Blast Tyrant’ in 2004 and ‘Robot Hive/Exodus’ in 2005 with the addition of Mick Schuaer as the organist. On top of this, the band released a DVD in 2008 titled ‘Full Fathom Five: Audio Field Recordings 2007 – 2008’ which was a compilation of live shows in Pittsbrugh, New Jersey and Sydney. The band started their own label titled Weathermaker Music releasing their ninth album, ‘Strange Cousins from the West’ in 2009, ‘Earth Rocker’ in 2013 and ‘Psychic Warfare’ in 2015. ‘Psychic Warfare’ placed at number 11 on the Billboard Top 100, making this album their highest charting record. Their most recent body of work, ‘Book of Bad Decisions’ was released in 2018 “bathed in the girt and liberal fuzz tone that have made their live shows legendary” as said by Rolling Stone. Clutch is currently touring globally and in the United States.
