The Rolling Stones Bio
The Rolling Stones are a highly influential rock and roll band formed in 1962 in London, England by vocalist and frontman Mick Jagger and guitarist Keith Richards. Their most famous lineup also included Brian Jones on the guitar, Bill Wyman on bass, and Charlie Watts on the drums. They gained popularity with cover versions of Chuck Berry, Buddy Holly, and The Beatles, topping American and U.K.'s charts, and were received in the U.S. as part of the so-called “British invasion” along with bands like The Beatles. A few years later they became international hits with original songs like “(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction” and “Paint It Black”. They went on to achieve celebrity status with the release of hit albums like “Between the Buttons”, “Let it Bleed” and “Sympathy For The Devil” before 1970. After the death of Brian Jones, the band saw commercial peak and lesser critical acclaim. In 1994 full-length album “Voodoo Lounge” won the Grammy for Best Rock Album. In 2006, a live performance in New York was filmed by Martin Scorsese, with appearances by Jack White, and Christina Aguilera. The year 2012 marked their 50th anniversary, with multiple re-issues and tours.
