Empire of the Sun is an Australian electronic and dance-rock music duo consisting of Luke James Steele (December 13, 1979) and Nick George Littlemore (May 6, 1978). Steele, originally from rock band The Sleepy Jackson and Littlemore from electronic duo Pnau met in 2000 through A&R executive, Simon Moor as they were both signed to record label EMI. Eventually, in 2006, Steele and Littlemore collaborated on Pnau’s self-titled album and eventually, began to work on their own project originally titled “Steelemore”. The two worked on their material as a duo throughout 2006 to 2008, releasing a single titled ‘Walking on a Dream’ to tease their upcoming album release. The single now has 308 million plays on Spotify among many other plays from other streaming platforms. The album titled after the single arrived in October 2008 and debuted at number eight on the Australia ARIA Albums Charts and later, moved up to number six. The album also won 8 ARIA Awards along with 2 BRIT nominations. Empire of the Sun eventually made their international debut on stage at the Vive Latino Festival in Mexico in 2010 and Lollapalooza Festival in the U.S. The success of their first album inspired the duo to release a second album titled ‘Ice on the Dune’ in 2013 with their popular single, ‘Alive’. The band began to tour shortly after their release in support of their new album and two singles titled ‘Tonight’ and ‘Wandering Star’ which were also used for the film soundtrack Dumb and Dumber To. Their third and most recent album, ‘Two Vines’ arrived in 2016 and landed at the Top 10 on the Australian Top 10 and just short of the Billboard Top 50. Currently, the band has 4 million monthly listeners on Spotify worldwide. In 2019, Empire of The Sun celebrated their 10th anniversary since their breakthrough.
