Explosions in the Sky is an American instrumental post rock band from Austin, Texas. The band consists of Michael James on guitar, bass guitar and keyboards, Munaf Rayani on guitar, percussion and keyboard, Chris Hrasky on drums and Mark Smith on guitar and synthesizer. The band formed in 1999 in Texas, with all the members of the band from Midland, Texas apart from Hrasky who is from Rockford, Illinois. Their debut album arrived in 2000 titled ‘How Strange, Innocence’ which was distributed as a CD. After the release, the band gained a considerable amount of popularity and were signed to Temporary Residence Limited. Their second album, ‘Who Tell The Truth Shall Die, Those Who Tell The Truth Shall Live Forever’ arrived in 2001 followed by their third album, ‘The Earth Is Not A Cold Dead Place’. In 2004, Explosions in the Sky created a soundtrack for the film Friday Night Lights which gave the band more recognition. On top of this, Temporary Residence re-released their first album, ‘How Strange, Innocence’ to be widely and digitally available for their fans. As the band began to gain more exposure through their live concerts, they released another album in 2007 titled ‘All of a Sudden, I Miss Everyone’ which was Explosions in the Sky’s Billboard breakthrough landing at number 76 on the Top 200 Albums Chart. With a larger fanbase, their fifth album in 2011, ‘Take Care, Take Care, Take Care’ landed at the Top 20 on the Billboard’s Top 200 Albums Chart. In 2016, they released their sixth album, ‘The Wilderness’. Throughout their career, Explosions in the Sky has been featured on several game, TV and film soundtracks such as Street Fighter V (game), One Tree Hill (TV), CSI: Crime Scene Investigation (TV) and The Kite Runner (film) amongst many others.
