Protomartyr Bio
Protomartyr, a Detroit-based post-punk band, was formed in 2010 after a few bands in the city's small but close-knit music community gradually coalesced. The group's wild card was vocalist and lyricist Joe Casey, who spun free-associative semi-beat poetry over the churning report of the musicians. Casey delivered hefty but intelligent music that played heavily on dynamics and physical impact. When Protomartyr signed with the Sub Pop-distributed Hardly Art label, their name gained more notoriety after they made an impression on the Michigan music scene with their 2012 debut album, No Passion All Technique. Additionally, Protomartyr signed with Domino for 2017's outstanding Relatives in Descent after receiving positive press coverage in North America and Europe following the release of their third album, The Agent Intellect, in 2015.
