John Douglas Torode (born July 23, 1965 in Melbourne, Australia) is an Australian celebrity chef, restaurateur, author, and TV personality. He is most renowned for appearing as a judge on the reality cooking show Celebrity MasterChef alongside Gregg Wallace, India Fisher, Lisa Faulkner, and Andi Peters.
Aged sixteen, Torode left school to join a catering institute. He got his first job as a chef at the Le Coq Au Vin restaurant in Aspendale, Melbourne. In 1991, Torode moved to the U.K. and secured a job as a sous chef at the Conran Group restaurants, Le Pont de la Tour and Quaglino's, where he worked under Terence Conran.
When a TV crew came to his restaurant to film, Torode approached the producer and told him he wished to be part of some culinary program on TV. This eventually resulted in Torode’s debut on TV with ITV’s culinary show This Morning. Following the show, Torode has appeared in other TV shows including John Torode's Ireland, The One Show, Loose Women, Good Morning Britain, and Saturday Kitchen.
