Mark Anthony Luhrmann, better known as Baz Luhrmann, is an award-winning Australian film director, screenwriter, and producer best known for his work in film and television. He was born in New South Wales, Australia, on September 17, 1962. Baz began his film career in 1992 when he wrote and directed the comedy-drama film Strictly Ballroom, and he has since become one of Australia’s most recognizable directors and screenwriters. His filmography includes Moulin Rouge, Australia, William Shakespeare's Romeo & Juliet, and The First Monday in May. But he is best known for writing, directing, and producing the film The Great Gatsby which featured Leonardo DiCaprio, Carey Mulligan, Joel Edgerton, and Tobey Maguire. Baz has won multiple awards including a BAFTA Award for Best Screenplay – Adapted, an AACTA Award for Best Film, and a Broadcast Film Critics Association Award for Best Director.
