Emoni James-Wayne Bates is a basketball player born on January 28, 2004, in Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA. The basketball prodigy gained prominence in the seventh grade as a top prospect. One of his highlight reels on YouTube has surpassed one million views. He played for Lincoln High School and Ypsi Prep Academy.
Emoni helped Lincoln High School to its first state championship as a freshman. He appeared on the cover of Sports Illustrated on November 4, 2019. He played for the University of Memphis between 2021 and 2022. However, he has transferred to Eastern Michigan. Emoni was a consensus top-five, five-star recruit by several recruiting services.
He was named the MaxPreps Freshman of the Year and won the 2020 Gatorade National Player of the Year. Emoni played on the Bates Fundamentals U16 team at the 2019 Peach Jam and was named to the All-Peach Jam First Team. He was named to the 2021/22 Preseason All-AAC Second Team.
