Ambrose Akinmusire is an American jazz musician who composes music and performs on his trumpet. Ambrose was born on May 1, 1982, in Oakland, California, United States. He began performing with the Berkeley High School Jazz Ensemble. At the age of 19, Steve Coleman invited him to be a part of a musical collective called the Five Elements, and he toured Europe as the group’s trumpeter. He studied music at the Manhattan School of Music and received his master’s degree at the University of South California. Akinmusire has also been part of the Monterey Jazz Festival's Next Generation Jazz Orchestra. He is signed to Blue Note Records with whom he has released multiple jazz albums including Prelude... to Cora, When the Heart Emerges Glistening, The Imagined Savior is Far Easier to Paint, and On the Tender Spot of Every Calloused Moment.
