Ashkan Kooshanejad, also known as Ash Koosha, is a musician and music producer born on August 13, 1985, in Tehran, Iran. In 2004, Koosha attended the Tehran Conservatory of Music, learning the physics of sound and acoustics as well as traditional musical study. Koosha was a bass player in the rock and roll band Font before the band was shut down by a police raid. He later formed an indie rock duo called Take It Easy Hospital with singer/songwriter Negar Shaghaghi. In 2009, the duo was featured in the film No One Knows About Persian Cats by director Bahman Ghobadi. The film is loosely based on the duo’s experience, with them providing the soundtrack for the film. While touring in the UK, Koosha sought asylum due to violence in Iran. In London, he began experimenting with digital sound and in 2015, he released the result of that experiment in the form of his first album, GUUD. The album went on to be one of FACT’s Album Of The Year. In addition to his various albums, Koosha has produced, directed, scored, and co-wrote his first feature film, Fermata, starring Shaghaghi and Will Firth.
