The electronic and hip-hop duo Phantogram was put together in 2007 by guitarist Josh Carter and keyboardist Sarah Barthel, both of whom provide vocals for their music, as well. They began performing under the name Charlie Everywhere, but changed their name in 2009 just after their singed with BBE. Phantogram debuted with a self-titled EP that same year, which was followed by Running From the Cops just a few months later. Shortly after, they released their debut album Eyelid Movies which featured the tracks “Mouthful of Diamonds” and “As Far as I Can See”. In 2011, Phantogram released the EP Nightlife and also had the opportunity to appear on the Flaming Lips song “You Lust” in 2013. Phantogram would go on to release the EP Phantogram in September of 2013, followed by Voices in 2014.
