Shihad is a rock band from Wellington, New Zealand, formed in 1998. The members are Tom Larkin (drums, backing vocals), Phil Knight (guitar, backing vocals), and Jon Toogood (lead vocals, guitar), and Karl Kippenberger (bass), who joined the band in 1991. Shihad represents one of New Zealand's most accomplished artists with eleven albums, 3 EP'S, more than twenty singles released, and quite a few nominations and awards under their name throughout the years. The band started as an idea of Tom Larkin and Jon Toogood. Two of them formed a group called Exit in 1985, during their high school days. After making two additions of Phil Duncan and Phil Knight, they officially started a band called Shihad. After three years of playing at the local bars and pubs, Shihad made a deal with Pagan Records, under which label they released their first single Devolve in 1991. A year after releasing the first single, Shihad has awarded the title of Most Promising Group of the year. Two years later, they released their debut album called Churn for the label Wildside Records. The release of their first album is just the start of their journey and the very prolific discography that will come.
