DJ Yoda, born Duncan Beiny in 1977 in London, England is an English DJ and hip-hop turntablist. He is known for his animated style of music production. He began making music while studying English literature at the University of Warwick in 1995. After he left university he released a series of demo mixtapes to local music shops. He was discovered by the label Antidote Records which asked him to produce a mixtape for them. His first official mixtape was released in 2001 and was called DJ Yoda’s How to Cut & Paste Mix Tape, Vol.1. In 2002 and 2003 he followed up with DJ Yoda’s How to Cut & Paste Mix Tape, Vol.2 and DJ Yoda’s How to Cut & Paste: 80’s Edition. In 2003 he collaborated with Dan Greenpeace for the mixtape series Dan Greenpeace & DJ Yoda- Unthugged 1&2 and Boxfresh.
He won a DMC DJ of the Year award in the Scratch DJ category in 2001. Q Magazine has named him one of the “Top Ten DJ’s To See Before You Die.” In 2006 he released his debut studio album on Antidote records entitled The Amazing Adventures of DJ Yoda. The album featured guest vocals from Biz Markie, Sway, Ugly Duckling, and MC Paul Barman. In 2010 he won an Independent Music Award for Contemporary Classic Album with the Heritage Orchestra. In 2015 he was tapped by Dr. Dre to guest mix on the inaugural broadcast of Beats 1 radio show for Apple Music.
