Corinne Bailey Rae (born Corinne Jacqueline Bailey) was born on February 26, 1979 in Leeds, West Yorkshire, England. She is a British songwriter, record producer, and guitarist, and was named the number one breakthrough act of 2006 in an annual poll of BBC music critics.
She released her debut album, Corinne Bailey Rae, in February 2006, and, following the success of this album, was nominated for three Grammy Awards, among multiple other honors. In 2008, she won a Grammy Award for collaborating with Herbie Hancock in The Joni Letters.
After a hiatus of almost three years, she released her second solo album, The Sea, in January 2010. She was again nominated for multiple awards, and won a Grammy Award for Best R&B Performance of “Is This Love”. In May of 2016, she released her next album, The Heart Speaks In Whispers, which debuted at Number 2 on Billboard’s R&B Chart.
