The Rasmus is a Finnish alternative rock band with gothic influences originally from Helsinki. The band was founded in 1994 and the original members are Lauri Ylönen (vocalist and composer), Pauli Rantasalmi (guitar), Eero Heinonen (bass ) and Jarno Lahti (drums), the latter being replaced by Janne Heiskanen in 1995 and the latter by Aki Hakala in 1998. They were known simply as Rasmus, from the words “TrashMosh”. In 1995, they released their debut EP “1st”, which includes songs like; “Funky Jam”, “Myself”, “Rana” and “Rakkauslaulu”. Just a couple of weeks after its release, the EP sold 1,000 copies. In 1996 they released their debut album “Peep” through Warner Music Finland, and the following year the band won an EMMA for Best Newcomer of 1996. The same year they released their second album, “Playboy”. In 1998 they released their third album titled “Hell of a Tester”. Overall, The Rasmus have sold over 4 million records worldwide.
