Death From Above 1979 is a rock duo from Ontario, Canada. Originally from Toronto, musicians Sebastien Grangier (April 11, 1979) on vocals and drums and Jesse Keeler (November 11, 1976) on bass and synth formed Death From Above 1979 in 2001. The band released their debut album in 2004 titled ‘You’re A Woman, I’m A Machine’. Although, due to band name ownership, the band was asked to add 1979 to their name as they were being used by James Murphy and his label, Death From Above Records. In 2006, the band released a statement on the Death from Above 1979 forum stating the duo has split and would no longer be releasing music nor going on tour. After working on their own solo projects, in 2011, Grainger posted on the band’s website stating he and Keeler have reunited. The band performed new material at EdgeFest in 2012 in Toronto and pursued a Canadian tour. In 2014, Death from Above released ‘The Physical World’ through Warner Bro Records as well as a documentary titled ‘Life After Death from Above 1979’. By 2017, the duo’s newest single, ‘Freeze Me’ arrived in the same year along with another album titled ‘Outrage! Is Now’. As the duo worked on their return to the music scene, by 2017 they changed their name back to Death From Above excluding the 1979.
