Coming from Scarborough, Ontario, Canada, the Barenaked Ladies or BNL plays alternative rock, jangle pop, folk rock, and college rock among other genres. They were already a known rock band in Canada before they made their international debut with 1998’s “One Week.” The band started in the ‘80s as an acoustic act, performing on universities and colleges.
Soon after, the Barenaked Ladies added more into the group in which released a number of cassette tapes. Their debut hit was 1991’s “Yellow Tape” which reached a platinum record in Canada. However, because of the band’s name which is considered to be sexist in nature, they were forbidden to play for a New Year’s Eve concert in 1991. However, this only led to “Yellow Tapes” sales to soar even higher.
