Rufus Wainwright Bio
Rufus Wainwright, born Rufus McGarrigle Wainwright on July 22nd, 1973 in Rhinebeck, New York is an American singer, composer, and songwriter. He began learning piano at the age of 6 and started touring as a musician at the age of 13 with The McGarrigle Sisters and Family. His single “I’m a-Runnin” earned him a nomination for a Genie Award for Best Original Song. He was also nominated for a Juno Award for Most Promising Male Vocalist of the Year.
In 1998 he established himself as a solo artist with the release of his album called Rufus Wainwright. The album received critical acclaim from Rolling Stone who named it “one of the best albums of the year.” He then won a GLAAD Media Award and a Juno Award for Best Alternative Album. In 2001 he released his second album called Poses to critical acclaim. He again won a GLAAD Media Award and a Juno Award for Best Alternative Album.
In 2003 Rufus released a new album called Want One. He then followed up with Want Two and an EP called Waiting for Want on DreamWorks and Geffen Records. His fifth studio album, Release the Stars, reached number 2 on the UK Albums Charts and number 23 on the Billboard 200. He released 4 more albums up to 2016.
