Jon Hopkins is an English electronic musician, music producer, and DJ born in Kingston upon Thames, England on August 15, 1979. At 12 years old he started learning to play the piano at the Junior Department of the Royal College of Music in London. He started his music career as a keyboard player for Imogen Heap. Hopkins bought his first synth at 15 years old from money won from piano competitions. At 17 years old he became Imogen Heap’s keyboard player and toured with the band in 1998. In 1999 he was signed as a solo artist to the label Just Music and released his debut studio album in 2001 titled Opalescent. He has since released the albums Contact Note, Insides, Immunity, and Singularity. He has also released two collaboration albums, two soundtrack albums, two compilation albums, and seven EPs. Hopkins has produced or contributed to albums by the bands and artists Coldplay, Dave Seaman, Zucchero, David Holmes, David Lynch, The Pierces and others.
