Diana Taurasi is a professional basketball player born on June 11, 1982, in Glendale, California. For her college career, Taurasi played for the University of Connecticut from 2000 to 2004. She became a two-time winner of the Naismith Player of the Year award and led her team to three NCAA titles. In 2004, she was selected by the Phoenix Mercury as the 1st overall pick of the WNBA Draft. As a rookie, she was chosen as part of the All-WNBA first team and was named WNBA Rookie of the Year. Taurasi first played in the United States Women National Team when she joined their Under-18 team and helped the team win gold at the FIBA Americas Championship. She first played in the US senior team in 2004 for the Beijing Olympics, where the team won gold. Taurasi continued leading her team to win Olympic gold in 2008, 2012, and 2016. During her off-season at WNBA, Taurasi has played in the European League since the 2005-06 season. Because of her dominating presence on the court, the late basketball player Kobe Bryant gave her the nickname White Mamba.
