Ben Folds, short for Benjamin Scott Folds is an American songwriter, singer, producer and musician. He was born on September 12, 1966, in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, U.S. He began his musical career during the late 1980s, forming a band called Majosha alongside Evan Olson and Millian Powers. In 1993, he formed the band Ben Folds Five, performing as the frontman and pianist until 2000. He has recorded several solo albums since then, performing and recording alongside musicians like William Shatner, Neil Gaiman and Regina Spektor, among many others. Folds is also a composer for movies like “Over The Hedge”, “Hoodwinked!” and many others. He was the judge of the NBC contest “The Sign-Off” from 2009 to 2013 and he is also an artistic advisor to the National Symphony Orchestra at the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C.
