Steve Miller Band is an American rock band formed in San Francisco, California in 1966. The current members of the band are Steve Miller on lead vocals, Kenny Lee Lewis on guitar and bass guitar, Jacob Peterson on guitar, Joseph Wooten on keyboards, and Gordy Knudtson on drums. The band was started by Steve Miller in 1966 after leaving his previous band and moving to San Francisco. The band’s initial name was the Steve Miller Blues Band, but was shortened to Steve Miller Band to appeal to a wider audience. The band secured a recording contract with Capitol/EMI Records in 1967 and in 1968 released their debut studio album titled Children of the Future. They have since released the albums Sailor, Brave New World, Your Saving Grace, Number 5, Rock Love, The Joker, Fly Like an Eagle, Circle of Love, Wide River, Let Your Hair Down, Born 2 B Blue, Living in the 20th Century and others. The band has released 18 studio albums, 7 compilation albums, 6 live albums, and 2 video albums. 12 of their albums have charted in the top 40 in the United States and 7 have charted in the top 20 in Canada. In 1987 the band received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
