Joel Matip, sometimes known as Job Joel Andre Matip, is an international football player for Cameroon who was born in Germany on August 8, 1991. He joined Liverpool on a free transfer from Schalke in 2016 and is a defender for them. On February 15, 2016, it was announced that Matip and Liverpool have reached an agreement on a pre-contract, which means the Cameroonian will join the team in the summer once his deal with Schalke expires. Matip's transfer was finalised and he was formally registered as a Liverpool player on July 1, 2016. The same day, it was revealed that Matip will don the number 32 jersey for the 2016–17 campaign after Cameron Brannagan gave it up. He established himself as a crucial cog in the Reds' back four and was named the team's starting center-back. In a 4-2 victory against Crystal Palace on October 29, 2016, Matip scored his first goal for the team by heading in Liverpool's third goal from a corner.
