Yola Bio
Country soul singer Yola, born Yolanda Quartey, is a Grammy nominated English artist from Bristol, England. Before going solo, the 35 year old worked as a vocalist and songwriter with dance artists such as Will Young, Duke Dumont and Sub Focus and was also Yola the lead singer for group Massive Attack, where they headlined for Glastonbury in 2008. Also known as Yola Carter, she self-released her first EP, ‘Orphan Offering’, in 2016 which she then toured around the United States. It was her show at the Americana Music Festival that year that resulted in her collaborating with The Black Keys guitarist, Dan Auerbach. Dan brought Yola into his Easy Eye Studio in Nashville, producing and assembling notable artists for her debut album release, ‘Walk Through Fire’. “A jaw-dropping album” as said by Vulture, the album is of high acclaim, nominating the album for 2 Grammy awards in 2019 such as Best Americana Album & Best New Artist and two for her single ‘Faraway Look’ for Best American Roots Performance and Best American Roots Song. Yola’s impeccable vocals and twist on country soul has also led her to collaborating with The Highwomen on their track, ‘Highwomen’ in 2019.
