Singer, songwriter, and musician Robert Glasper was born in Texas on April 6, 1978. The son of a jazz-singing mother, he was inspired to make a career out of music at a very young age. Robert Glasper performed at local churches throughout his youth, and after attending the New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music, he was given the opportunity to work with artists such as Q-Tip, Mos Def, Erykah Badu, Jay-Z, and others. 2004 saw the release of his debut album Mood, and six of the songs on the record were penned by Robert Glasper himself. He would go on to release Canvas in 2005, In My Element in 2006, and Double-Booked in 2009. On the latter album, Robert Glasper is featured on the piano as well as playing electric instruments. He later released the three-part album series Black Radio, the first two in 2012 and the third in 2013. In 2013, he won his first Grammy Award for Best R&B Album for Black Radio.
