Wilco is an American indie-rock band formed in 1994 in Chicago, Illinois, after the breakup of another rock band called Uncle Tupelo. This latter band’s members Jeff Tweedy (vocals) and John Stirratt (bass) would later join Nels Cline (guitar), Glenn Kotche (drums), and multi-instrumentalists Pat Sansone and Mikael Jorgensen. The group’s debut was titled A.M. and was issued in March 1995. The following year, the critically acclaimed Being There went out, but it wasn’t a commercial success. This trend continued for the band, however by the early 2000s the band had amassed a loyal fan base that let them tour the United States and carry on with a recording career. Some lineup changes ensued, and by 2002 an independent documentary about the band was produced (“I Am Trying to Break Your Heart”). In 2014 they celebrated their 20th anniversary with the compilatory album “What's Your Twenty? Essential Tracks 1994-2014.” The band would release a total of 13 studio albums between their inception and 2019.
