Dianne Reeves Bio

Dianne Reeves is a jazz singer born on October 23, 1956, in Detroit, Michigan. Reeves was introduced to jazz at an early age when her uncle, classical and jazz bassist Charles Burrell, gave her records of jazz music. After a performance at the National Association of Jazz Educators Conference with her high school jazz band, Reeves caught the attention of Clark Terry, who would later hire her to sing with him. In 1977, Reeves moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career in music, which led to collaborations with the band Caldera with Eduardo del Barrio and extensive tours with Sergio Mendes. She began recording her first album in 1981 with Palo Alto Records. In 1987, Reeves signed with Blue Note Records, which marked the beginning of her long professional relationship with the label. Her first album with the label, titled Diana Reeves, appeared on multiple US charts. Reeves has won several Grammy Awards, including the award for Best Jazz Vocal Performance for three consecutive recordings. In 2009, Reeves left Blue Note and later signed with Concord. Her first album with the label, Beautiful Life, featured artists like Esperanza Spalding, Sheila E, and George Duke.
