Mahalia Bio
Mahalia Burkmar, widely known as Mahalia (born May 1, 1998), is a British R&B singer from British-Irish descent. The 22 year old artist has been singing since she was 5 in her hometown, Leicester, landing a record deal with Atlantic Records when she was 13 although Mahalia wanted to pursue her schooling before dedicating to her music. She released her first EP ‘Head Space’ in 2012 when she was 15 and her second EP in 2015, ‘Never Change’, which was released by Atlantic Records. According to her interview with VIBE magazine, she was introduced to Ed Sheeran who tweeted about her which led to her signing to record label, Asylum Records UK. In the same year, Mahalia was featured on Rudimental’s track, ‘We The Generation’. After her third EP release ‘Diary of Me’ in 2016, she released her hit single in 2017, ‘Sober’, debuting a live performance on Colors x Studios on YouTube which now has 39 million views and 29 million plays on Spotify. She then collaborated with popular UK artists for her single releases such as ‘Hold On’ with R&B artist Buddy and ‘Proud of Me’ featuring rapper Little Simz. The young star’s smooth vocals and sultry R&B beats led to her receiving YouTube’s award for YouTube’s Ones To Watch and a nomination for Critic’s Choice Award at the BRIT Awards. Her much anticipated full-debut album, ‘Love & Compromise’ was released in 2019 with smash hit single, ‘What You Did’ featuring UK R&B singer Ella Mai which has 23.4 million plays on Spotify along with ‘Simmer’ featuring Burna Boy with 23.8 million plays and ‘I Wish I Missed My Ex’ having 43 million plays.
