Buddy Guy Bio

Buddy Guy is an American singer and blues guitarist born in Lettsworth, Louisiana on July 30, 1936. His style of guitar playing has influenced other prominent guitarists like Jimi Hendrix, Keith Richards, Eric Clapton, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Jimmy Page, Jeff Beck, John Mayer, and Gary Clark Jr. In the 50’s he lived in Baton Rouge and would perform with bands in that area. He released his first album in 1965 titled Hoodoo Man Blues with the blues vocalist Junior Wells. He continued making a number albums with Junior Wells, including It’s My Life, Baby!, Coming at You, Play the Blues, Going Back, Better Off with the Blues, and others. In 1967 he released his first solo album I Left My Blues in San Francisco and continued releasing albums like A Man and the Blues, Breaking Out, Feels Like Rain, Living Proof, Blues Singer, Heavy Love and more. Throughout his career he has won seven Grammy Awards and a number of other awards. In 2003 he was given the National Medal of Arts by the President of the United States. Guy was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2005 and the Louisiana Music Hall of Fame in 2008. In 2014 he was inducted into the Musicians Hall of Fame and Museum.
