Gang of Youth is an indie rock quintet with the line-up David Le’aupepe (lead vocals), Joji Malani (guitar), Jung Kim (keyboard), Max Dunn (bass), and Donnie Borzestowski (drums). The group formed out of high school in Sydney, inspired by bands such as Sonic Youth, the Replacements, U2, and Leonard Cohen. The group self-released the single “Evangelists” in 2013, which got picked up by radio stations for airplay. The group started their own label, Mosy Recordings, and soon traveled to New York to work under producer Kevin McMahon, of the bands Real Estate and Titus Andronicus.
Gang of Youths have toured at SXSW and have been invited to open for the bands Vampire Weekend, Foster the People, and Manchester Orchestra. Their 2015 album, “The Positions,” peaked at #5 on the ARIA charts and gained them three ARIA award nominations. Since then, Gang of Youths have won four ARIA awards in 2017 for their sophomore album, “Go Farther in Lightness.”
