America Georgine Ferrera was born on April 18, 1984 in Los Angeles, California. As a young girl, she developed an interest in acting so she took part in several stage productions at school. She made her debut in 2002 with a drama titled Real Women Have Curves. This was a breakout role for her, and it got her parts in other successful productions such as Disney’s Gotta Kick It Up and the drama The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants (2005), the latter of which won her an Imagen Award for the Best Actress as well as her first nomination for an ALMA award. Ferrera also appeared as a lead role in Ugly Betty, which ran from 2006 to 2010. She has also appeared in The Dry Land (2010), Our Family Wedding (2010), and End of Watch (2012).
