D.L. Hughley was born on March 6, 1963 in Los Angeles, California. He began his career as the original host of ComicView in 1992. In 1998, he wrote, produced and starred in the T.V. series, The Hughleys. He is also known from the documentary, The Original Kings of Comedy (2000). In 2008, he hosted a comedic news show entitled D.L. Hughley Breaks the News. Hughley has written two books, I Want You To Shut The F*ck Up and Black Man, White House: An Oral History of the Obama Years, which made the NY Times bestseller list. He has made appearances in Scrubs, Dancing with the Stars and Who Wants to be a Millionaire? More recently, he has moved away from comedy a bit and he got a role in a medical drama titled Heartbeat that premiered in 2016.
