CyHi Bio

Hip-hop artist CyHi (Cyhi the Prince) was born Cydel Young on September 15, 1984 in Stone Mountain, Georgia. As a child, he sang in the school choir, and his parents did not allow him to listen to hip-hop music.

Prynce released two mixtapes in 2009 before being signed to Kanye West’s label GOOD Music in 2010. He made an appearance on West’s album, “My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy.” In 2011, he released two mixtapes: “Royal Flush II” and “Jack of All Trades.” Prynce appeared on the GOOD Music compilation album, “Cruel Summer,” with 2 Chainz, Raekwon, Kid Cudi, Pusha T, Common, D’Banj, John Legend, Teyana Taylor, Malik Yusef, and Travi$ Scott. The album reached number two on the Billboard Top 200 and number one on the Billboard Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart. In 2012, he released another mixtape, “Ivy League: Kick Back,” and had writing credits on Kanye West’s album, “Yeezus.” The song “New Slaves” off of “Yeezus,” which featured Prynce as a writer, was nominated for Best Rap Song at the 2014 Grammy Awards.
