Calexico Bio

Calexico is an American indie rock band consisting of two main members, Joey Burns and John Convertino. The conception of the band all began when Joey Burns met John Convertino who was playing with band Giant Sand. Convertino asked Burns to join the band as a bass player and joined them for their European tour. Eventually, Burns and Convertino decided to form a band called Spoke which was later changed to Calexico, reissuing their first EP ‘Spoke’ in 1997. Now formally as Calexico, the duo released their multi-instrumental second album, ‘The Black Light’ in 1998 allowing them to tour with bands such as Dirty Three, Pavement and Lambchop along with their own festival shows at the Hurricane Festival and Bonnaroo Music Festival. They moved on to releasing their third album, ‘Hot Rail’ in May 2000 and in the same year released ‘Tete A Tete’ with Naim Amor and Thomas Belhom under the moniker ABBC. It took a lengthy time before their fifth album, which then came out in 2006 titled ‘Garden Ruin’. This was followed by their sixth album, ‘Carried to Dust’ in 2008. In 2015, Calexico released ‘Edge of the Sun’ featuring Sam Beam, Ben Bridwell, Carla Morrison, Gaby Moreno and instrumental group Takim. Their most recent album, ‘The Thread That Keeps Us’ released in 2018 which was their most charted album landing on number 2 on the Alternative Albums Chart and number 5 on the American/Folk Chart in the U.S.
