Antoine Fuqua was born on January 19, 1966 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He began his career directing music videos for popular artists like Coolio and Stevie Wonder. He won two Music Video Production Awards as well as the Young Generator’s Award for his work with Coolio. He began directing feature films in 1998 starting with The Replacement Killers. In 2001, his film Training Day earned an Academy Award. He later directed films like Tears of the Sun (2003), King Arthur (2004), and Shooter (2007). He is one of the co-creators of the comic book series After Dark. He directed a remake of the 1960 western The Magnificent Seven and was the executive producer on the remake of the television series Roots (2016).
