Danielle Brooks Bio

Danielle Brooks is an American actress and singer born in Augusta, Georgia on September 17, 1989. She is best known for her role as Tasha Jefferson or Taystee on the show Orange is the New Black. She started acting at six years old in a nativity play at her church. She studied drama at the Juilliard School and after graduating in 2011 landed acting roles in the theater productions, Servant of Two Masters and Blacken the Bubble. In 2012 she landed her debut role on television in the television movie Modern Love. She has since had roles in the television films and shows Black Girls Rock! 2013, Orange is the New Black, Girls, Master of None, Lip Sync Battle, Project Runway All Stars, and High Maintenance. She has voiced characters in the animated shows Lasso & Comet, Tangled: The Series, and Elena of Avalor. In 2015 she made her debut in a feature film in the movie I Dream Too Much and has also had roles in the films Clemency and The Day Shall Come and has voiced a character in the animated film The Angry Birds Movie. Throughout her career she has been nominated for several awards and has won three Screen Actors Guild Awards, a Grammy Award, a Young Hollywood Award, and a Theatre World Award.
