Addison Russell was born in Pensacola, Florida on January 23m 1994. He was part of the USA Baseball 18U National Team at the 2011 Pan American Games in Cartagena. The team won a gold medal, and he was named as the First-Team All-Tournament.
The Oakland Athletics drafted him in the first round of the 2012 Draft. In 2013, he was named as the Arizona Fall League Rising Star and AFL All-Prospect Team.
He was traded to the Chicago Cubs in 2014. In 2015, he played his regular infield position of shortstop with the Chicago Cubs, marking his debut in Major League Baseball.
Russell has also been an All-Star pick in 2016. In the same year, he helped lead the Cubs to a World Series game which they won.
