Mahamadou Souleyman, also known as Mdou Moctar is a Tuareg singer, songwriter, and guitarist born in Tchintabaraden. He gained his first recognition when he appeared on an American compilation in 2010. At a very young age, Mdou learned how to play homemade guitar on his own. When he grew up, he acquired a real guitar and learned how to play it. In 2008, he traveled to the Nigerian city of Sokoto, where he recorded his first album Anar. Anar found an enthusiastic audience within the cell phone-trading networks of West Africa because it wasn't properly released. He gained global recognition two years later when two songs were featured on the compilation Music on Saharan Cellphones Vol. 1 which was released by American indie Sahel Sounds. He released his second album Afelan in 2013. After touring in Europe, Mdou wanted to try acting as he was given a role in the 2015 film Akounak Teledat Taha Tazoughai.
