Richard Jenkins Bio
Richard Dale Jenkins, popularly known as Richard Jenkins is an American actor and comedian, who has been active in the entertainment industry for more than five decades. Born on May 4, 1947 in Dekalb, Illinois to Dale Stevens and Mary Elizabeth, Jenkins is known for his supporting roles in movies, and won a couple of awards for his stellar performances.
He studied Drama at Illinois Wesleyan University, earning a degree. Before he made a breakthrough in acting, he worked for John C. Reilly’s father as a linen truck driver. Jenkins broke into the film industry with a small role in the 1974 television film “Feasting with Panthers.” Since his debut, he has starred in movies like Silverdo, Hannah and Her Sisters, How to Make an American Quilt, Snow Falling on Cedars, Outside Providence, Intolerable Cruelty, Step Brothers, Dear John, Jack Reacher, and White House Down.
His role in the 2007 film, “The Visitor” earned him nominations for the Best Actor category at the Independent Spirit Award and the Oscars. Ten years later, he received an Oscar and Golden Globe nominations for his stellar performance in the 2017 fantasy romance film “The Shape of Water.” He won the Primetime Emmy Award for his lead role in “Olive Kitteridge.”
He has two children with his wife Sharon R. Friedrick.
