Devendra Banhart is a musician who was raised in Caracas, Venezuela and Los Angeles, before studying at the San Francisco Art Institute. Banhart’s music is free-form and defiant of classification, being called psychedelic, freak folk, or outsider. He blends Latin rhythms with progressive rock methods, producing light-hearted compositions. Banhart first turned to busking on the streets and traveling the world from LA to Paris and back, Seemingly unconcerned with greater goals.
Despite this, Devendra Banhart has become an unqualified success, having released nine albums to date with the most recent, “Ape in Pink Marble” (2016) being just as quirky and unidentifiable as the first. His eclectic and eccentric style makes his music uniquely film-friendly, so his compositions have featured in the soundtracks to various movies and TV series including “Friday Night Lights,” “Rage,” “Forbidden Fruit,” and “Parenthood,” to name a few.
