Buzzcocks Bio

Buzzcocks is a punk rock band formed in 1976 in Bolton, England. The band was formed by Pete Shelley and Howard Devoto after the two saw the Sex Pistols live in London. They recruited bassist Steve Diggle and drummer John Maher and began performing at local clubs. Within months of their formation, the band opened for the Sex Pistols and later joined them on their Anarchy Tour. They released their first EP, Spiral Scratch, in 1977. Their first studio album, Another Music in a Different Kitchen, was released in 1978. The band continued to release albums and touring until their disbandment in 1981. Buzzcocks decided to reunite in 1989 to tour the United States, consisting of members Shelley, Diggle, Maher, and Steve Garvey. Buzzcocks would have several line-ups before settling on original members Shelley and Diggle plus bassist Chris Remington and drummer Danny Farrant. The band continued to release 5 more albums before the passing of founding member Pete Shelley in 2018. After Shelley’s passing, Diggle announced that the band will continue to keep Shelley’s memories alive.
