Jim Jarmusch Bio
Jim Jarmusch is an American film director, screenwriter, producer, actor, editor, and musician born in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio on January 22, 1953. He is known for being an advocate for independent films since the 1980s. He has directed a number of films, including Stranger Than Paradise, Coffee and Cigarettes, Dead Man, Down by Law, Broken Flowers, Only Lovers Left Alive, Paterson, Ghost Dog: The Way of the Samurai and more. He is credited for making a huge impact on the creation of independent films. In the 1980s he was one of several musicians in Robin Crutchfield’s Dark Day Project. He became a vocalist and keyboard player for the band The Del-Byzanteens who released the EP Lies to Live By. Jarmusch has released three collaborative albums with Jozef van Wissem, Concerning the Entrance into Eternity, The Mystery of Heaven, and An Attempt to Draw Aside the Veil and has released three EPs with the rock band Squrl, EP #1, EP # 2, and EP #3. He also composed the music for his films. Throughout his career he has been nominated for several awards and has won a Sternberg Award, a Camera d’Or Award, a Filmmaker on the Edge Award, and the Grand Prix Award.
