Marco Materazzi Bio
Marco Materazzi is a former professional football player who played as a center-back. Born on 19th August 1973 in Lecce, Italy, Materazzi started his career with Lazio academy in 1988. He remained with the youth setup until 1990 after which he joined Messina. In 1991, he joined Tor di Quinto. Two years later, he signed with Marsala. He went on to play for Trapani, Perugia, and Carpi before joining Everton in 1998 for one season. He rejoined Perugia in 1999 for one season before signing with Inter Milan in 2001.
He made 184 appearances for Inter Milan from 2001 to 2011. In 2014, he joined Chennaiyin as a player-manager. Materazzi also represented his home country from 2001 to 2008, making 41 appearances in all competitions. He was part of the team that played France at the 2006 FIFA World Cup Final. He gave away a penalty that gave France the lead but equalized twelve minutes later. He was also head-butted by Zinadine Zidane in an extra minute, which led to Zidane receiving a red card. Italy went on to win the World Cup through a penalty shoot-out.
