Singer-songwriter Ali Zafar was born Ali Mohammad Zafar in Lahore, Punjab, Pakistan on May 18, 1980. After attending college for fine arts, Zafar made his music debut with the album, “Huqa Pani,” which featured his hit single, “Channo,” in 2003. It won Best Album at the 2004 Lux Style Awards. His second album, “Masty,” arrived in November 2006, and he subsequently won the Youth Icon Award at the 2007 Lux Style Awards. The song, “Dekha,” was featured in the film, “Wall Street Money Never Sleeps,” in 2010, which made him only the fourth Pakistani artist to have a song featured in an American movie. His third album, “Jhoom,” was released in February 2011. In addition to his music career, he also acts and has appeared in seven films released in Pakistan. He has won three Indus Music Awards, five Lux Style Awards, three MTV Style Awards, a Stardust Award, a Dadasaheb Phalike Academy Award, an Asian Bollywood Music Award, and an ARY Film Award, and has earned several other award nominations. He is a very popular performer on the Pakistani series, “Coke Studio;” he has appeared nine times, including twice in 2015.
