Miguel Cotto was born in Rhode Island on October 29, 1980. He is known for being the first Puerto Rican to win a world title for four different weight classes. He has been active in boxing from 2001 to 2017.
Cotto placed second during the Junior World Championships in 1998. He also participated at the Pan American Games in 1999 and the Boxing World Championships held in Texas.
In 2003, he won the WBC International light welterweight title. He won the WBO-NABO title in 2003, the WBA Fedelatin light welterweight title and the WBO light welterweight. In 2006, Cotto won the WBO welterweight title. He moved to the light middleweight category and won the WBA (Super) and WBA (Regular) title.
In 2014, he won WBC, The Ring, and the lineal middleweight title.
