Born in July 10, 1939, Mavis Staples came from Chicago, Illinois. Her music is mostly gospel, and she leads for the group Staple Singers. Her first single was under the label of Volt, a Stax subsidiary, back in 1969. More albums then came afterwards which features disco and electro-pop genres.
Staples is known for her rich contralto voice. She has deep sensuality and masterful command of her voice that makes her one of the best singers ever. In year 1996, she released the album “Spirituals & Gospel: Dedicated to Mahalia Jackson.” She also won a 2011 Grammy Award for the song “You Are Not Alone,” for the Best Americana Album category. Her latest release is entitled “Livin’ on a High Note” in 2016.
