Americana band Hurray for the Riff Raff was formed by Alyndra Lee Segarra in 2007 in New Orleans, Louisiana. After leaving her home in The Bronx, New York, Segarra “road the rails” until she ended up in New Orleans.
Segarra became a part of the group Dead Man’s Orchestra in 2007. She ended up partnering with Yosi Pearlstein (drummer/violinist) and David Maclay (bass) to form Hurray for the Riff Raff. They released two albums in 2008 and 2010 independently. In March 2011, they released their self-titled full-length album, which received airplay in Britain on BBC Radio 2 and BBC 6 Music. In May 2012, they released their second album, “Look Out Mama, “ on their own label and was more widely released by Loose Music in August 2012. They signed with ATO Records and released the album “Small Town Heroes” in February 2014. It reached number three on the Billboard Heatseekers Albums chart and earned them a spot at number eight on Billboard’s Next Best
Sound list on February 8, 2014.
