Álvaro Torres is a Salvadoran singer and songwriter born in Usulután, El Salvador on April 9, 1954. Torres grew up in El Salvador but moved to Guatemala to further his music career. In 1976 he released his first album titled Algo Especial and followed that up the next year with the album Acariciame. In 1978 he was selected by the television network TCS to represent El Salvador in the seventh edition of the OTI Festival, an annual singing competition held in Santiago, Chile. He finished in second to last place and tied with the Columbian singer Billy Pontoni. He eventually moved to the United States and lived in California, Colorado, and Ohio. He became well known in 1991 after releasing the album Nada Se Compara Contigo and was voted Songwriter of the Year by BMI in 1994. Throughout his music career he has released a number of albums, including Adicto, Amor Que Mata, Cruz de Olvido, Te Dejo Libre, Angel Caido, Tu Mejor Amigo, and many more.
