David O. Russell is an American film director, screenwriter, and producer born in New York City, New York on August 20, 1958. He has worked on several popular films like Silver Linings Playbook, American Hustle, The Fighter, and Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy. Some of his earlier work include the films Spanking the Monkey, Flirting with Disaster, Three Kings, and I Love the Huckabees. From a young age he loved film and aspired to be a writer. He started his career taking video of slums and bad housing conditions and turned it into a documentary about Lewiston, Maine. He has also made several short films like Bingo Inferno: A Parody on American Obsessions, Hairway to the Stars, Soldiers Pay, and Past Forward. Russell has been the director on several Oscar winning and nominated performances and is the only director to have two films with nominations in all four acting categories. He has won a Golden Globe Award, two Satellite Awards, four Independent Spirit Awards, two BAFTA Awards, and a number Film Critics Awards.
